Welcome to the latest Club update.

This week our hopes of second place were extinguished as Camberley kept winning, while we lost two of our three matches.

Last Tuesday we totally demolished Frimley Green 5-1 and could have had more. It left us requiring five points to be mathematically certain of clinching third place. Regrettably, after the Easter results we still require those points, as South Park defeated us 2-0 and then Croydon inflicted a 3-0 defeat at the Arena.

Should in form Cove and Westfield overtake us and leave us down in fifth place once again, a season that promised so much until quite recently would quite rightly be consigned to the history books as a shocker. That said, recent defeats have not been because we have played poorly, instead it has been because of injuries, suspensions and absences. Can we do anything about this?

Injuries are part of the game and Ken Jones our Physio is one of the best around, while suspensions have been fewer than usual this season. However, I believe we have had too many player absences this season. I'm not going to get into the reasons or excuses for each player, but this has made Lyndon's job really difficult this season, as it is imperative to try and keep a settled side where possible. Some players have been virtually ever present this year, but we need that number to be larger if at all possible and you just have to look at the player stats to see that this hasn't been the case.

As we look ahead to Thursday's Semi-Final against the unbeaten Spelthorne Sports and Saturday's final home League match against Hanworth Villa, it is clear to me that two wins will solve our problems. They would earn us a Cup Final and almost guarantee Third place, earning us a Vase exemption to the First Round Proper next season. This would give us the opportunity to get a couple more League games played at the start of the season when the pitches are better and more suited to our style of football. It would also help towards avoiding a fixture backlog later in the season so would be a very useful prize.

Spelthorne may be a Division below us currently, but they will be joining us next season as Champions and remain unbeaten in EVERY competition they have entered this season. This is obviously an incredible record but why can't it be us that are the first team to lower their colours? Come along on Thursday and find out, but please note the slightly earlier kick off time of 7.30 as we have to allow for the possibility of extra time and penalties if required.

Come on you Salts!
