4th April 2016

Welcome to the latest Club update.

It's been a good week for Salts supporters!

Following the Easter disappointment at home to Westfield we have bounced back in style with two fine away wins in the space of three days.

We started on Thursday evening when the match at Raynes Park Vale finally took place after it had been postponed on Monday and Tuesday and once Kyle Hough had put us ahead in the 19th minute we played better, going on to win 3-0. We created a number of chances that weren't taken but our two other goals were both superb and we must have taken a great deal of confidence into the trip to Guildford City on the Saturday.

So much so that despite playing the match with our striker Rob Hendry in goal, and conceding an early lead to the home side, we were able to fight back in style and our 5-1 win was very clinical. The game was arguably won in the first half as we turned around 3-1 up, although there was a spell early in the second half where you felt that if Guildford had got a second, it might lead to a nervy end, but two goals in the final quarter of an hour from Tom Neale finished them off and we had more chances at the end as they fell apart completely. Neale was unfortunate not to become only our second player in club history to score a hat trick, but you would take five goals every week and this is now the fourth time that we have scored five goals away from home this season; a target we have only reached twice before in history.

Throw in a Camberley draw and an Ashford defeat and you realise that all is not yet lost in the battle for second place. This was brought shaprly into focus by the confirmation that Champions elect Hartley Wintney had failed to pass the correct grading for Step Four and the runners up will now go up instead. We now sit just four points away from that position and still have Ashford to play at the end of the season. Of course we can't forget Camberley who are two points behind us with three games in hand and following Ashford's slip at Horley on Saturday are arguably now favourites for that spot. They have to play many games in hand due to their excellent F.A. Vase exploits earlier this season but this week is telling as they face Redhill, Badshot Lea and Raynes Park Vale; all teams that they should beat. Any dropped points would open the door wider for us and Ashford so we'll have a much better idea of our position by next Saturday.

We next host Badshot Lea on Saturday 9th April. Badshot play two matches this week also, so we should be the fresher of the teams. However, we have a poor overall record against the Baggies so will need to keep working hard if we want to take the points. The task is simple on paper. Win our remaining six matches and hope for one other loss from both of the other challengers and we would go up. Any other points dropped will surely mean the end of our challenge. Game on!

Come on you Salts!
