Welcome to the latest Club update.

After a bit of time off, normal service has now been resumed and so the weekly editorials can continue. The reasons behind the break were contained within our recent club statement which is still available on our previous articles page.

In recent weeks we have continued our challenge for the top places in the league but have hit a few blocks along the way, particularly at High Road where we have lost three of our last four matches, all by the odd goal. It seems to be a regular occurrence that our away form outdoes our form at home and this is not a recent issue either. It goes back years! The latest of these defeats came at home to Knaphill where we were a goal ahead and whilst not comfortable, we weren't in too much danger either, until our reserve keeper Adrian Jones kicked out a bit more than he was allowed to when catching a ball and was promptly sent off for serious foul play. Although the subsequent penalty was missed, and indeed, another one was saved in the second half by our defender Dan Dean, two goals in the final twenty minutes sealed our fate against a decent side in good form.

Earlier this season we might well have hung on to the points, but it must also be said that with the two penalties against us we could have lost it 4-1!

We are at home again this Tuesday evening when Cove make the rescheduled journey after being unable to fulfil the fixture on 8th December. I am pleased that they are able to continue this season after the league cleverly afforded them a small break and recall that we ourselves were granted a similar courtesy back in 1982 after the departure of Manager Pat O'Connell and most of the squad. Like us back then, they have regrouped and are now once again competititve, but we have to deal with that and ensure a home win if we want the season to end with some light at the end of the tunnel.

My personal view, and I am not sure whether our Managememnt Team or even Committee share this view, (but hey, it's my editorial!) is that I believe that realistic chances of the title have now gone. However, while Hartley Wintney await confirmation that their ground would be acceptable at Step Four there is always the possibility of Second place earning the promotion instead and I firmly believe we have a very good shot at this. Of course Ashford and Camberley will feel the same and probably secretely share a similar view to mine.

Looking at the remaining fixtures, both Ashford and Camberley have to face Hartley while we are inished with them and for that matter, other nearby teams like Horley and Colliers Wood. We face our two main rivals both at the end of the season and both at home, where our record is still decent this year, just not as good as the away record! We have matches coming up against Cove and Chessington in the next seven days and if we can win them, like on paper we should, then it all gets very interesting as the season nears its end. You never know, there is still plenty to play for.

So why not come along and watch us? either Tuesday at home to Cove or on Saturday at Chessington, weather permitting. Steve has done a great job recently of completing a full list of match sponsors for this season, for which we thank all of them. However, we will happily take on second match sponsors or alternatively you can still sponsor a player. Every donation helps in our position.

Come on you Salts!
