11th January 2016

Welcome to the latest Club update.

We have very little to report this week as our one game of the week was postponed at AFC Hayes on Saturday.

Whilst frustrating, it may actually work to our advantage. There are only five teams who can win this title, and although Horley could catch any one of the top four who slip up, it is looking unlikely that they will be able to overhaul the top four in their entirety, so it is probably now just a four way battle for the title.

Of those four, Hartley Wintney remain favourites but their pitch is more vulnerable to postponements than those of our own, Camberley and Ashford, so more bad weather will increase their fixture backlog at a greater rate than the other clubs. Throw in further delays caused by their Vase run and you realise that their run to the title will be no walkover.

Camberley Town have just reached the last 16 of the F.A. Vase, for which we congratulate them. However, from a title perspective, it may prove to be an awkward distraction. Ashford are out of the Vase and may have a clear path in terms of fixtures, but we are in a similar position. The only competition we remain in is the League Cup, although all of the "big four" remain in that.

Until Tuesday, that is, as we host Ashford Town in that very competition. Having won 3-2 over there in October you could say there is some sort of advantage, but we haven't beaten them at home since 2002 and although many of our squad may now be fitter, we still have some suspensions outstanding and have to hope that this is also the case for the opposition.

Then on Saturday we host in form Spelthorne Sports who have changed immeasurably from the team that we defeated 6-2 over there in September. They won 6-2 themselves on Saturday against ten man Badshot Lea but they are due to visit Camberley in a League Cup tie on Tuesday that is arguably a more important fixture for them than it is for the Krooners. Even though our friends from Camberley are the holders, they are chasing greater things, and I think Spelthorne will have a really good go at them and may even come away with a result. It will be a very tough game for us, but to be honest I'm just hoping that we can get back on the pitch again soon!

All in all it is quite a good time to be a supporter. Why not come on down and support us?

Finally, I can announce details of our Fund Raising evening on Saturday 23rd January. We will be running a quiz with a difference. It is a category based quiz and will be presented by a former footballer at this level, Martin Firmo. Those who have seen him before say he is very entertaining. In addition we are holding the event at the very local Epsom Common Working Mens Club in Epsom, so why not come along. Entry is £10 and you need to be there for 7.30 so have plenty of time to get back from our match at Windsor that day. If nothing else it is an oportunity to meet the players too as they will all be there, so please try and get a team up and speak to a Committee Member to book your place.

Come on you Salts!
