Welcome to the latest Club update.

They say to never look at the League table until Christmas, but it's hard not to look right now as it makes for happy reading!

We may well remain eight points behind the leaders Hartley Wintney but our superb recent form, along with the current longest unbeaten run in the league fills me with confidence that we can close the gap this season, and whilst Ashford Town, Camberley Town and Horley Town all have a similar shot at the title, I believe that no one is looking forward to playing us at the moment.

We played Guildford City on Saturday and even their own report referred to a "near perfect" first half performance. I can only endorse that totally as we were quite brilliant, despite being up against a strong wind we produced four great goals; all of which were team goals rather than down to any individual act of brilliance, which of course we also appear capable of producing right now.

The second half was a bit of an anti-climax but the game was won by then and if I had a pound for every time in the past decade that we haven't put teams away, only for them to come back at us and pinch points near the end, I would be considerably richer. I'm not saying that we eased off, as we did make other chances, but were just unsuccessful in scoring further goals and this is why it is important to get off to a good start.

To illustrate, we have now played 19 league games and have scored eight times in the opening ten minutes of the match. Additionally, we have only conceded four times in the first half; once at Spelthorne and at Hartley Wintney where in each case we immediately replied, while the other two were at Ashford and we were already 3-0 up by then anyway. We have the second highest number of goals in the division and the second best defence. We have scored some stunning goals and played some excellent football; slightly less obsessed with possession than under the former Management, but at the same time a little more direct which I feel is the ideal recipe for Combined Counties League football. By all measurements we are having an excellent League season.

So it really is about time that you all started telling your friends to come along and support us. Camberley Town had 102 on Saturday, while Ashford had 83 and Hartley Wintney 75. We had just 51 present and if we could get just an extra 25 full paying adults along to each game we would be adding £150 to our revenue weekly, plus programme and Super Six sales. When you extend that over a season we are looking at an additional £4k, which is massive to us. I wouldn't ask if we weren't playing well, but as supporters, we need you to a) come along and b) bring as many as you can get in your cars to come along with you. Your club really needs your support right now.

This Tuesday we have a home midweek match against Cove. Whilst we will be clear favourites for this game, shocks can happen (can't they Jose?) and so our Management team will be reminding our players of that fact. If we get off to a good start it could be an exciting evening. We follow that match with a trip to Ash where we meet Badshot Lea. We don't have a great record against the Baggies, but we did win 3-0 the last time we met, and although they are picking up a bit now, we are the form team and if we do our job, it's the opposition that needs to do the worrying. As I wrote last week, these are exciting times to be a supporter.

I will finish today by welcoming back two more former players. We have recently seen the return to the line up of Carl Downs and Steve Rowe and now Savvas 'Agi' Panayiotou and former League Cup winning Captain Jamie Hatfield have returned to the Salts from Chipstead and South Park respectively. With a number of defensive injuries right now, it is important to have cover everywhere, although Glyn and Matt will have a major selection headache once they return, and many are close to doing just that!

Come on you Salts!
