Welcome to the latest Club update.

Saturday's draw at Knaphill was a frustrating one for players and supporters alike.

With an unchanged eleven following the win over Chessington & Hook, I thought we played far better this time out and deservedly led early in the match, only to lose our way for a fifteen minute spell during which the home side equalised. Despite a late barrage we were unable to secure the win and had to settle for the point, which was harsh on the balance of play.

However, there were positives to take from this match. Firstly, we saw the return to the field of Kyle Hough after his nasty injury at Ashford Town three weeks ago. Our leading scorer has been missed for four matches this season (if you don't include this 8 minute cameo) during which time we have scored just the one goal in each of those contests. Secondly, we were by far the better team. Just a couple of weeks ago leaders Hartley Wintney visited Knaphill, but whilst they managed to sneak a 1-0 win, by all accounts the home side were unlucky and deserved a draw. They certainly didn't on Saturday.

I refer to Hartley Wintney because they are the current standard bearers and statistically, they currently have the best attack and defence in the League. Although we now sit in fourth place, we are closest to them in terms of points dropped and of course, we visit Green Lane on Tuesday evening.

This is a big league game all round. The hosts are in great form and also remain in many competitions, including the F.A. Vase, where they host Windsor in the last 128 next weekend. It looks as though they will be playing a lot of matches this season, so it is important for us to close the gap and keep the pressure on from a League perspective. This didn't happen a few years ago when we were chasing South Park and they ended up running away with it as a result.

There is no doubt that we will have to play our best football and take our chances to get anything from Hartley Wintney but they are a Step Five team, just like us, so will make mistakes and will surely not go the entire season undefeated, so why can't it be us that puts a dent in that record?

Following that trip we host Hanworth Villa at High Road on Saturday. Hanworth are having a much better season this term than last and are one of the best six teams in the division to this point. Our former player Dale Marvell is back over there now, while I also thought we'd see another former Salt in Jon Boswell, but he has now transferred to Colliers Wood United, so we'll see him a week later!

It goes without saying really that we are in the middle of a very tough crop of fixtures, but no one said this was going to be easy and with two games a week happening for the first time in a while, we need your support, both at home and away. If we can win these two matches, there is no reason why we cannot sustain a challenge for the whole season. Let's see!

Come on you Salts!
