Welcome to the latest Club update.

This week I am able to report on a double success for the club. Six points, nine goals and equally importantly, two good performances as we defeated both Colliers Wood United 3-1 at High Road and then doubled that with a 6-2 win over Spelthorne Sports on their own patch! These wins have moved us up to second place in the table, which is excellent news.

Much credit goes to our boys and the Management Staff for bouncing back after the Vase defeat. As a supporter, and probably as a player too, you expect to go out of the F.A. Cup fairly early, but with luck (and a good draw!) you can achieve significant progress in the Vase as Colliers Wood themselves showed last year with a narrow defeat in the last 32, that also earned them an exemption to the Second Round. As a result, it can be extremely deflating to depart that competition at an early stage but we are playing with confidence now and hopefully we can keep it going.

The one small crumb of comfort that we can take after the Cup defeats is that we are well up on our League fixtures. This means we have no midweek matches in the League until December as it stands. In fact the only other midweek matches for us are in the our remaining knockout competitions; the League Cup and the Surrey Senior Cup, where we are away at Banstead and at home to Dorking Wanderers respectively on consecuttive weeks in mid-October. Only playing once a week also means that injured players do not miss as many games. Now don't get me wrong, I don't want us to go out of the Cups early, I am just looking for the small benefits that those defeats bring! We could now take on a couple of cup runs, safe in the knowledge that we won't experience a fixture backlog this season.

For now then, it's just one match each week and next up at High Road on Saturday at 3pm are AFC Hayes. If you haven't heard of them, it's because they used to be known as Brook House back when we were playing them a decade ago in the Isthmian League. They have been in the Southern League for a while but came down this year and have had a slow start. Let's ensure that it stays that way! Why not come on down!

Come on you Salts!
