Welcome to the latest Club update.

After last week's depressing news, we got back to normal this week. In other words, we had another postponement, followed by an inconsistent display against Molesey that ultimately cost us two points. We produced a good hour of football against Molesey but a poor fifteen minutes just before half time was our undoing. Whilst it could be argued that we were unfortunate not to score again in the second half, we could have conceded four times in that poor spell, so can't really complain about the result which doesn't really help us, apart from keeping the chasing pack away from the top four. It's been a good season, but it's not looking like it will be a great one as things stand as South Park currently sit ten points clear and with a game in hand. There is still plenty to play for though and there was no shortage of commitment from our players, so let's keep going lads, you never know!

We take a quick break from League football on Tuesday when we face Old Hamptonians in the Southern Combination Cup, an Amateur Football Combination team that sit outside the regular pyramid structure. We would be wise not to take this game lightly though as they have already dispatched Chertsey Town and Bedfont & Feltham from the competition and are top of their League. Two days later we are due to travel to Hartley Wintney for a League match before hosting Colliers Wood United in the League at High Road on Saturday.

Our latest postponement at Raynes Park Vale now means that we have to visit them on a Thursday evening in April. In fact, the fixture situation is now becoming an issue, even for clubs like ourselves with a good draining pitch.

The problem could yet worsen as we remain in two Cups, so there could in theory be an extra four matches to add to our list, not to mention this Thursday's trip to Hartley Wintney, which must be viewed as doubtful right now due to waterlogging that caused their game on Saturday to be postponed when many others were able to play. They are not the only clubs with problems. Farnham, Bedfont Sports and of course our local friends down the road at Raynes Park and Chessington & Hook are all having real trouble getting their fixtures completed.

I have studied the problems for some time as I'm sure many others have. In addition to the weather, we also have the bottleneck at this level with only one team earning promotion each season. Last season was an anomaly to increase clubs in the higher steps, so don't be fooled by thinking this will happen frequently, it won't. Throw in travel distances for many clubs in other areas of England and you see there are many issues facing clubs at this level.

Is there a solution? I believe I have found one.

On the front page of this website there is now an area marked "Suggested Reshuffle". My suggestion will reduce the number of clubs in each division at this level, introduce playoffs for a second promotion spot and move many local sides closer together, reducing travel substantially in many of the extreme areas of the country. How? Why not have a look! Any suggestions are welcome and one day soon I might just send this up to the F.A. for their views. Yes, maybe I should get out more, but don't worry that will be happening now with three fixtures a week for the foreseeable future and you'll get detailed accurate reports from all of them right here!

And don't forget, any other relevant club news will appear right here on this website. Over 1,700 unique visitors have been on this site in February alone which is fantastic, when considering that the club website continues to ignore its existence, It has also chosen not to tell you about the departure of long serving striker Robbie Burns or our Treasurer Tony Foster, and only tells you what it wants you to know, which is a strange attitude for a club to take when it needs publicity. We now get more hits here than the "official" club site so it's clear that most of you already know this. Thanks to all of you and please keep spreading the word!

Come on you Salts!
