17th August 2015

Welcome to the latest Club update.

It was another mixed week for the Salts as we started off with a great 1-0 win at Redhill, only to then lose our F.A. Cup tie at home to Erith & Belvedere by four goals to nil.

The League win enabled us to remain unbeaten and Kyle Hough was our scorer as he finished off a half chance really well, midway through the second half.

However, on Sunday we produced a performance that was lifeless and Erith took full advantage, scoring after just 19 seconds and scoring three more times in the second half. It was really disappointing as the extra publicity received courtesy of the BBC London News programme enabled us to kick off in front of 151 spectators, our second largest gate at Chipstead after our League match with Guernsey in 2013. The majority of them wouldn't have been impressed.

I am sure that the players and Management are equally depressed at present though. Our lads are a good bunch and are usually so good at closing the opposition down these days but it just didn't happen on Sunday and whilst conceding so early was a shock, we were still in the game at half time and on another day might have been able to turn it around. Having said that, Erith & Belvedere were very good and will go far this season I'm sure.

Our game this Tuesday against Colliers Wood is off as Chipstead have a League Cup tie. Our next match is on Saturday when we travel to Sutton United, the new home of Sutton Common Rovers, formerly known as Mole Valley SCR who have been able to ground share much nearer to their spiritual home. It hasn't helped them much yet and we have to ensure that our first ever competitive match on a 3g astroturf surface is one we remember for the right reasons.

So, we're out of the Cup, but let's be honest we weren't ever going to win it, so had to lose at some point! Now let's get back to the hard work and see where it takes us on Saturday.

Come on you Salts!
