Welcome to the latest Club update.

It's been a mixed week for the Salts with one big high, followed by a low!

On Tuesday we faced South Park in the League Cup and despite trailing at the half, thoroughly deserved the 2-1 win that was achieved with James Taylor's first goal for our club. He is still two goals behind his father Dave, who played for us throughout 1985/86, also scoring a famous late equaliser against Yeovil Town, that was rumoured to have won someone a lot of money as it was the eighth draw on the pools coupon that day. Yes, Epsom were on the Pools coupon twice that season!

Unfortunately we couldn't keep up the League form as in form Alton Town won 3-0 at High Road on a blustery day. In truth, we didn't deserve to lose, but we didn't deserve to win either, and many players were well below their usual form. That said, a League is won and lost over 42 games so a bad day at the office is not terminal. We could really do with getting back to winning ways at Frimley Green on Saturday though.

By a strange quirk of statistics, it will be our first visit to Frimley since the exact same weekend forty years previously! We won then, so here's hoping we'll be back on another winning run again very soon.

In the Cups, we now face two quarter finals, one at Chessington and Hook or Wembley as the defence of our League Cup continues, and one against Amateur Fotball Combination side Old Hamptonians in the Southern Combination Cup. Both will be played in March and both will be tricky, as Old Hamptonians have already knocked two Senior teams out in Chertsey and Bedfont & Feltham and are unbeaten in their League, while both Chessington and Wembley have already beaten us this season. In the meantime, it's total focus on League matters with Frimley Green and the two home games that follow it against Hartley Wintney and Cove taking priority.

Finally, I must report that our Club Treasurer Tony Foster has resigned. Tony had been doing the job since July 2010 and was a thoroughly pleasant chap that will be hard to replace. Steve Dyke is now taking this job on until the end of the season, but would be grateful to hear from anyone with experience in this field that would like to help. If interested, just speak to any Committee Member, or drop me a line, and I'll put you in touch with the relevant people.

Come on you Salts!
