Welcome to the latest Club update.

Just the one match to report on this week, a narrow 2-1 home defeat to Knaphill.

You could throw a number of reasons or excuses at this one. A great strike for the winner, suspensions and injuries causing a lack of cover on the bench, a windy day, the opposition battling for survival, but ultimately I think the visitors shaded the match and that's all that really matters.

In our defence it has been a really good end of season which we haven't been able to say too often in recent years, so full credit to the lads for their performances during the run in. We know that a win at Frimley Green on Saturday could get us seventh place, which was higher than I thought possible at the start of the season, knowing that our budget would be lower and that three Southern League clubs were dropping in to join us too. The standard continues to improve and although completely hypothetical it would be interesting to see where last season's team would have finished had they remained together.

Of course there is always room for improvement and the first question people will ask is how high could we have finished if we'd avoided the eleven red cards this season. Looking at the table I believe we would have finished above Spelthorne Sports, but whether we would have caught the top five is debateable as they are some distance clear of the chasing pack. Again, we'll never know but it is an issue that I'm sure will be addressed for next season.

So, as referred to above, our final match of the season comes on Saturday at Frimley Green and this is followed by the End of Season Presentation Evening at the Epsom Common Working Mens Club from 7pm. Tickets cost £10 but they do include food and I think it is excellent value, bearing in mind that we have had to cut back on things this season. Please either drop me a line here or contact a Committee member if you are interested in attending as we have to provide a list of names to the Club before the evening.

I'd like to finish this week's editorial by thanking all those of you who have had a go at the Super Six Predictor competition. We are likely to run this again next season as the club has raised around £600 and been able to provide a winner with £361 in the process!

Come on you Salts!
