Welcome to the latest Club update.

On the field The Salts suffered a narrow defeat at title chasing Camberley Town on Saturday by a goal to nil. We've played better but we've certainly played worse too and we gave them a real battle, despite coming up short.

We now face two very important matches. On Tuesday we host Chertsey Town in the League. They were not expected to be at the wrong end of the table but they are, so we have to take advantage of their position, especially as we go into the game with three straight League losses ourselves. We remain seventh, but there is a large queue of teams just behind us and one defeat could see us tumble quite a few places, so it's time to get back on the winning trail.

Then on Saturday we make our first ever trip to Lingfield for the F.A. Vase First Round tie. They won against Cray Valley on Saturday and are expected to win at Erith Town on Tuesday evening in a scenario similar to the one we face against Chertsey. They may have let in many more goals than any other team in their League but they have also scored the second highest number and so it is fair to say that their games are not currently lacking in excitement!

We have every opportunity of winning this tie but will have to be at our best and it is hoped that Taylor Smith will have recovered from a knee injury before that game to give Glyn some more options.

Off the field The club had a relocation meeting on Wednesday with representatives of the football club, our Holding Company, the Colts and the proposed new site all in attendance.

You will understand that for now some things, in particular the location, need to remain secret, as a football club is not always the most popular thing to have in your back yard and publicising matters too much is not a good move at this stage! However, I can report that the meeting was a positive one and in view of this, we have appointed a consultant to carry out a feasibility study on the site. Once this study is received we will be in a better position to know whether a) we can afford the cost and b) whether it is likely to be something that can sustain us going forward. Any potential grant sources will also be identified as a part of the consultant's brief and will be pursued in the event we are able to proceed.

More information will follow as soon as we have it. I can't advise any time scales at present but rest assured, the wheels are moving faster behind the scenes than they have been at any time since the mid-nineties!

Come on you Salts!
