29th September 2014

Welcome to the latest Club update.

I have two completely contrasting results to report on this week.

On Tuesday we travelled to Westfield, confident after our win at Knaphill. However, it just didn't happen on the night and full credit to Westfield who worked really hard, closing us down and like with last year's trip there, once we went behind, you wondered how we would get back into it. We did create chances towards the end of each half and on another night might have escaped with a draw, but two late goals led to a rather harsh looking score line in the end.

So we travelled to Spelthorne Sports on Saturday for our first ever visit, knowing that they had just lost in the League for the first time in 39 matches, after being defeated at Colliers Wood on Wednesday.

I thought they would come out all guns blazing, but apart from a couple of chances, they didn't get through that often and as we got back into the game we won a penalty for a foul on Taylor Smith and Kyle Hough kopened his account for the season. A Dale Marvell goal (on his 300th appearance for the club, no less) and a low strike from Matt Farrell that the keeper ought to have done better with enabled us to record the first League win at the Spelthorne Sports Club since Mole Valley won there on 2nd March 2013!

So now it's on to this week. We face Guildford City on Tuesday, another side who received a shock defeat last week, when losing 7-1 at Horley Town! They have had all week to stew on that result as they had a day off on Saturday due to Raynes Park's involvement in the F.A. Cup, so it will be interesting to see how the red and whites respond when they visit High Road. We then have a Saturday off, which is just as well as we have many matches coming up shortly.

We are currently ninth place in the table with a record of 4-2-4 and a positive goal difference. To see whether we can climb higher, why not come along to High Road on Tuesday evening and see for yourself?

Come on you Salts!
