Epsom & Ewell 3-3 Horsham YMCA - Pre-Season Friendly - Saturday 6th July 2013

A late Kyle Hough equaliser to complete his hat trick enabled the Salts to earn a deserved draw at Beare Green Playing Fields on Saturday

Epsom trailed to a deflected effort in the third minute, and although playing the better football, we were caught out and conceded a second after 15 minutes when Joe White made a good first save but was unable to do anything to prevent the loose ball being knocked in.

Kyle Hough reached a Jamie Hatfield through ball, and although he was wide, managed to sneak the ball in from the narrowest of angles six minutes later, but after 26 minutes we were three - one behind after a long shot went in off the underside of the bar. White was able to get a touch on the ball but it was not quite enough. It was nearly 4-1 just before the break but White tipped over a free header from a corner.

The second half started with nine different Epsom players on the field, only Alex McKay and Kyle Hough remained from the first half, and in the heat, the next half an hour brought few chances for either team with exception of a second goal for Hough when he intercepted a back pass on the hour mark and easily beat the keeper to reduce the deficit.

Twice we had goals disallowed as we looked for an equaliser, but nippy midfielder Karl Doughlin found Hough in the final minute and although the keeper forced him wide, he just reached the ball ahead of a covering defender to force the ball home for the equaliser.

It is always tough to draw any conclusions from an early friendly but with exception of the absent Dale Marvell and Robbie Burns, the remainder of the squad were all present and that is a good sign.
