E= vans had been reserve team manager at Epsom under Mike Christie before O'Connell c= ame in. Evans is

J= uly 78 Epsom & Ewell FC defeat Ewell Village at cricket. First ever win in five matches over recent years.

AG= M 19/7/78 at clubhouse. A small profit of 96 was made which was deemed unsatisfactory= by Ian    
Gr= ant if they want to progress. Graham Peacock was re-elected to the Committee while Pe= ter Smith    
t= akes Dave Ellins place as Vice-Chairman, but he remains on the Committee too. Over = 40 present, but  
no= t yet clear if it was Monday or Tuesday that the meeting was held.        
7/= 8/78 Stan Bailey suffers a heart attack while at work. He is making good progress i= n St Thomas'

19= /8/78 Opened the season with a 3-2 loss at Finchley.            
22= /8/78 Late late winner from the spot for Horsham. Lost 2-1 at West Street.        
22= /8/78 Horsham were managed by former player Terry "Tex" Wiltshire. Pr= og numbered 1.    
Au= g 78 Micky Lyel will be out for 12 weeks while Alan Webb has an operation this week, both with    
ca= rtilage trouble. Willie Bennett, now with Chessington is injured again and career= is in doubt.    
26= /8/78 Makeshift Epsom side lose at home 2-1 to Harlow. Prog numbered 2.      
2= 8/8/78 First win of the season and first goal for Tuite as Epsom win 1-0 at Aveley's M= ill Field ground.  
2/9/78 Addlestone are defeated 2-0 at home in the FA C= up. Future players Andy Abel and Roy Beswick played
as= did former player Paul Butler.                
5/9/78 Lewes are defeated 6-1 with a Tuite HT largely responsible. 5-0 up at HT. Programme numbered 3 even
t= hough the Addlestone one should have been 3. This was the last one to be numbered f= or over 30 years.  
Sept 78 Epsom get past Hounslow in an FA Trophy replay= but Woking end their FA Cup interest the following
we= ek by a score of 3-1. Two of the Woking goals are scored by future player Alan Morton.    
19/9/78 A 2-0 win for Epsom ended Wokingham's unbeaten record. Confusion over the date but Wokingham programme
co= nfirms the date as 19/09/78 which was a Tuesday.            
14= /10/78 Heavy 5-0 loss to Croydon in FA Trophy, but they were top of the Premier at the time.    
1= 7/10/78 Epsom win 2-1 at St Albans in LSC. Game stopped briefly because the home = fans were throwing  
ac= orns at Dave Turner from the terracing!              
19= /10/78 Glyn OB 5 a side tournament saw Epsom defending their title. (NR).        
21/10/78 Match is sponsored by Gerry Shepherd, Terry Larkby and Gerry Larkby. Drew 0-0 with Wembley (H).
4/11/78 Phil Weller returned after a lot of injuries. = He scored and then limped off again as St Albans were beaten
4-0 at West Street. Club apologises for a limited numb= er of programmes this day. The were using the remaining
old covers prior to having them reprinted as Steve Del= aney was obscured by a black line on the original cover picture.
11= /11/78 Epsom win 2-1 at Met Police, just a month after being knocked out 3-0 in League Cup.    
Nov 78 Leatherhead lose 4-0 at Colchester in FAC. Form= er Epsom player Trevor Lee gets the first for the U's.

N= ov 78 Epsom have trouble with planning officers who don't want them to put an adverti= sing hoarding on the  
bo= ttom bank looking out to the trains. One of the posts was still there in late 1981.=

16/12/78 Tommy Tuite scores his 200th goal for the clu= b in a 4-0 win over Southall & Ealing Borough. Only the second
pl= ayer ever to do this in club history after Reg Marlow. In 2012 they remain the only tw= o to do this.

20/1/79 Martin Crawford makes debut for the Reserves a= s a sub. He would go on to scout for Millwall, Reading and
Liverpool under Managers like Mick McCarthy, Brendan Rogers and Steve Coppell. He is currently Assistant Manager
of Largs Thistle in the West of Scotland League. Recen= tly turned 65 at the time of the article written on 02/08/2020.
